Comenius Project
FRESCO: First Real European School Cultural Olympics
Over the next two years, five schools from five countries will work together in various cultural and sporting themed activities. The themes to be explored will include, amongst others, the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The title of the project symbolically unites five themes. Our Olympic rings stand for: everyday life, traditions, sport, art and music, and express the idea that various similarities throughout Europe can be discovered in the diversity of cultures that characterise each country.
A brief outline of the festivals/workshops:
- First festival in Romania: Theme of everyday life. Introduction of the schools, their profiles, the national education systems, hometowns and regions, and customs regarding food.
- Second festival in Turkey: Theme of traditions in dance, music and song in each country.
- Third festival in The Netherlands: An Olympics running parallel to the Olympic Games in London.
- Fourth festival in Germany: Creation and presentation of a museum of European art; incorporation of all prepared contributions from each country into our FRESCO artwork, as an expression of togetherness in diversity and a common-ground shared by the five countries.
- Fifth festival in Finland: Music workshop, introduction of self-composed European songs for the closing show “Journey through Europe”.
